Summer reading clubs starting up

This year’s Summer Reading Club at the Thousand Oaks Library has something for all ages. Children, teens and adults can read and earn points and prizes.

Summer Reading Clubs are available for every age: Prereaders for birth through 4 years old; school age children in kindergarten through fifth grade; tweens and teens in grades six through 12; and adults age 18 and older.

To sign up for the reading club, go to www.tolibrary.org and click on the Summer Reading Club registration link.

Volunteers at the libraries will be available to help patrons with registration beginning Sat., June 17.

The Thousand Oaks Friends of the Library will sponsor a variety of summer programming at both the Grant Brimhall and Newbury Park libraries.

Events include comedy, magic, science, movies, art and musical programs.

The Summer Reading Club will kick off Sat., June 17 with an outdoor movie at the Newbury Park Library parking lot. “The Lego Batman Movie” will start at 8 p.m.

Guests should bring their own lawn chairs, blankets and snacks.

Research has shown the beneficial effects of reading throughout the summer for children. Significant evidence indicates that when teens and adults read for pleasure, they sharpen their focus and analytical skills.
