Giving can be its own reward
I was deeply concerned over Lloyd Trammell’s letter (Acorn, Feb. 16). His lack of compassion isn’t new; I find it too often.
I am sure that there are people out there who do take advantage and run scams. I am also sure that, more so in this economy, there are people hurting.
As a Christian I take a different view on this.
There have been many times that my husband has not had any work, and food and essentials were not available.
I also know that in these hard times I have depended on the Lord, and he always came through.
I still give to some of the panhandlers when I can or feel led to.
I truly believe that if I give with good intentions I will be blessed regardless if they are for real or scamming me.
There is a saying, “There but for the grace of God go I.”
Jesus never turned his back on those in need (including me) or asked if they were lying.
So I take on his example and do the same. You may not agree with me, and that’s fine.
I just choose to love my neighbor whether or not they love me back.
Some people are lazy, but I don’t want to assume that they all are. So the golden rule still applies for me.
