Kids can explore career options

Brighter Horizons, the 10th annual career exploration day for children in grades five through nine, will take place from 8 a.m. to 12:10 p.m. Sat., March 10 on the campus of California Lutheran University, 60 W. Olsen Road, Thousand Oaks.

The day is sponsored by AAUW Thousand Oaks in cooperation with the Simi Valley and Camarillo branches and the CLU School of Education.

The event will offer 32 workshops for children in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Some of the sessions are “Dive into a Kelp Forest,” “Solving Crime with Forensic Science,” “DNA: The Invisible Lifeline” and “Is There Life on Mars?”

The workshops are taught by women who are actively employed in their fields of expertise.

Hands-on activities for the students are part of each workshop.

Registration is $10. Online registration is required and closes on March 5.

Parents are invited to stay for a series of parent workshops at no charge in the Preus-Brandt Forum in the campus library.

The parent workshops are as follows.

9 a.m., Joyful Living: the Parenting Experience. Gail Small, presenter.

10 a.m., How To Guide Your Child To Find A College That Fits. Pat Croner, presenter.

11 a.m., A STEM Career For Your Child? AAUW Tech Trek UCSB. Linda Stinbaugh and Susan Pease, presenters.

Parent sessions will end in time for adults to pick up their children.
