Council on Aging to discuss new ‘live in place’ housing model for seniors
The Thousand Oaks Council on Aging will discuss the village housing model at its next meeting on Wed., March 7 at city hall, 2100 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd.
The public can meet and talk to the presenters during a luncheon from noon to 12:40 p.m. The meeting, which will be broadcast on TOTV, will begin at 1 p.m.
The village concept is a new, affordable living model in development around the country that allows seniors to age “in place” in their own homes. In return for an annual membership fee, villages offer members a place to live, resources, services, programs and activities that revolve around daily needs.
There are 70 villages open in the United States with more than 13,000 members.
The speakers at the March 7 meeting are Susan Poor, representing the national Village-to-Village Network and San Francisco Village; Grace Cheng Braun and Caroline Koskinas of WISE Connections in Santa Monica; and Floy Biggs and Brandi Orton with REAL Connections in Claremont.
The speakers will provide an overview of the village model, information about the Village-to- Village Network and a summary of research underway for the model.
For reservations, call (805) 381-7362 or visit the Council on Aging online at www.toaks.org/seniors.
