College ensemble gives concert

The St. Olaf Band, the touring concert band of St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn., will perform at 4 p.m. Sun., Jan. 29 at Ascension Lutheran Church, 1600 E. Hillcrest Drive, Thousand Oaks.

The concert program will feature “Rest,” a new band setting of a choral piece by Frank Ticheli, Amilcare Ponchielli’s Sinfonia in B flat minor, “Limerick Dreams” by Nathan Daughtrey and a movement from David Maslanka’s new Symphony No. 9.

Also included will be a composition by conductor Timothy Mahr, “Passages,” and the premiere of a new work, “Windmills,” by a current St. Olaf Band member, senior Eric Choate.

The band was founded in 1891. The conductor is Timothy Mahr.

The concert is free for students and $10 for adults and seniors. Group rates for 10 or more are available.
