13 will run for council

With 13 candidates running for three seats, Thousand Oaks voters will have plenty of choices for City Council in November.

For those who like the way things are and don’t want change, the three incumbents whose seats are up will be running again.

Andy Fox will be going for his fifth four-year term; Dennis Gillette will run for his fourth, and Claudia Bill-de la Peña will seek her third.

Making another run for a seat are self-employed businessman Ernest LeGault and financial planner Al Adam, Bill-de la Peña’s choice for planning commissioner.

Also running are Thomas Adams, a wine sales and service person; Frank Akrey, a self-employed business owner; Deborah Birenbaum, an educator; Geoffrey Bride, a pilot flight instructor; William “Billy” Martin, a businessman and writer; Brandon Millan, an economic adviser and author; Todd Press, a 30-year resident with a law degree; and Michael Wurtzel, a printing salesperson.

The candidates have lived in Thousand Oaks from as few as three years to as many as 48.

As of 5 p.m. Fri., Aug. 6, Gillette, Birenbaum, Martin, Fox, Press and Wurtzel had been certified to run.

Akrey, LeGault, Adam, Bill-de la Peña, Millan, Adams and Bride were still pending.

Candidates must submit at least 20 signatures of registered voters living in Thousand Oaks along with their application. Once the clerk is able to verify the signatures, the candidate is certified.
