If you’re bored in T.O., you’d be bored anywhere

Bored in Thousand Oaks?

Impossible!

Boredom is a state of mind, an excuse. It doesn’t matter where you live or what your circumstances; boredom, drinking, drugs and crime are choices.

The cure? Turn off the TV, movies, computer games, text messaging and get away from the negatives. These are all nonthinking, brain-dead, nothing-toshow for-it, immediate gratification activities. It doesn’t matter how long you do them, you’ll never feel satisfied.

What to do? The list is endless!

Serve others. Make a special family dinner every week. Enroll in a class at Conejo Recreation and Park District. Do a science project. (Our last family project was a hovercraft!) Write a short story or song. Start a summer band. Write a short script and act it out with friends and family. Help a younger sibling with a subject they’ve been struggling with in school, like reading, writing or times tables. Go for a walk or ride your bike on the many trails throughout our beautiful city. Study the stars. Go to a concert in the park. It’s a short drive to the beach or bowling in Simi Valley. Go fruit- and vegetablepicking in Moorpark. Brainstorm with your friends or family, and you’ll come up with a long, fun list. The list really is endless–– you just have to want it.

Anyone who’s bored has simply been trained to be entertained.

Turn off the “entertainment” and seek fulfillment and value. Add memories to your summer that are worthwhile and valuable.

Don’t wait for someone to bring it to you––go get it!
