Shakespeare goes retro in Moorpark
Moorpark College Theatre Arts will present its summer 2010 production of William Shakespeare’s romantic comedy “Two Gentlemen of Verona” in the studio (black box) theater of the campus Performing Arts Center, 7075 Campus Drive, Moorpark.
The show will run at 8 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays, July 15, 16, 17, 22, 23, 24, 29, 30 and 31 and 2 p.m. July 18 and 25 and Aug. 1.
Set in the 1950s, the play tells the story of lifelong friends who get torn apart when Proteus falls for his best friend’s girl. “Two Gentlemen” has the charm and laughs of Shakespeare’s greatest comedic romps complete with verbal acrobatics, slapstick clowns and mistaken identities.
The production will feature greasers, poodle skirts, beatniks, a doo wop group of wandering minstrels and a live animal.
Tickets range from $10 to $15, with senior and group discounts available. Online orders will save 20 percent.
