Crackdown begins on drivers using cellphones
The Thousand Oaks Police Department has noticed many motorists using cellphones while driving without a handsfree device, which is against the law. A crackdown has already started.
The use of handheld cellphones while driving is lawful only in a few instances.
Cellphones cause traffic collisions, according to police.
Although the law has been enforced since it was enacted in 2008, the Thousand Oaks Police Department will begin making cellphone violations a priority by writing tickets.
In addition to daily patrol enforcement, the Thousand Oaks Traffic Bureau will be conducting random cellphone enforcement operations, consisting of traffic officers working together at specific locations and focusing primarily on cellphone violations.
Motorists who make calls while driving must use handsfree devices.
Drivers under the age of 18 years are prohibited from using cellphones in any way while driving.
