Glendale man, 34, arrested after drugstore break-in
When multiple alarms went off, police rushed to CVS Pharmacy to find a burglary in progress.
It was 10:49 p.m. May 27 when Thousand Oaks police arrived at the Newbury Park pharmacy at 451 S. Reino Road to find the store’s rear door had been forced open.
The police surrounded the location and brought in a senior deputy with a police dog. The K-9 investigator began a sniff search.
Behind the store, the dog located and allegedly bit Glendale resident Alex Shahkaramian, 34.
A police report said Shahkaramian and another man ran from the open back door, with Shahkaramian jumping a fence into a drainage canal west of the business.
Police said the accomplice ran north toward Kimber Drive, escaping through the backyard of a home on S. Fallbrook Avenue.
It appeared that pharmaceuticals were the target of the break-in, said Detective Roger Kelley.
A large trash can, similar in size to a curbside residential trash can, was found by police in the center of the store.
It was filled with over-the-counter and prescription medications, along with two smaller CVS containers.
Shahkaramian was booked at the pre-trial detention facility in Ventura on one count of commercial burglary and one count of resisting arrest. His bail was set at $10,000.
Ventura County Crime Stoppers will pay up to $1,000 reward for information which leads to the arrest and criminal complaint against those responsible for this crime. The caller may remain anonymous. The call isn’t recorded. Call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS (8477).
