Parks isn’t all she’s made out to be

I’ve been reading the letters to the editor section of your newspaper about the legacy and accomplishments of Linda Parks. I’d like to add a few that her supporters haven’t mentioned.

When Mrs. Parks was on the Thousand Oaks City Council, she wouldn’t vote to repair or update the Hill Canyon waste treatment plant. Because of her failure to act on any repairs, a major waste water line ruptured. The city of Thousand Oaks had to spend millions of dollars in fines, legal fees, cleanup costs and be a national embarrassment.

Also on the City Council, Mrs. Parks was censured twice for giving classified information to non-qualified persons, which was detrimental to the city’s interests. (Editor’s note: Parks was cleared of wrongdo ing the only time she was cen sured, according to the city of Thousand Oaks.)

When the storm water retention basin that was intended to keep low-lying areas of Thousand Oaks from flooding in a major storm was proposed, Mrs. Parks again stalled the project with redundant and unnecessary testing and hearings.

This caused the project to come in over budget.

As county supervisor, Mrs. Parks has again used extra hearings and testing to stall the replacement of a dangerous water tank in Oak Park for five years and increase the cost from $2 million to now more than $8 million. Remember, this is your tax money that was wasted.

We need a county supervisor who will reduce coasts, not increase costs. We need a county supervisor who won’t constantly embarrass our district or our county.

We need a county supervisor who will work with all the people in the district, not just their special interest supporters. We need a county supervisor who knows the ways of Sacramento to bring grant money and our fair share of voter passed proposition money to our district and county.

Please join me June 8 in voting for Audra Strickland for county supervisor 2nd District.
