Is it dangerous to raise nice kids?

Family coach, speaker and author Timothy Smith will lead a parenting seminar, “The Danger of Raising Nice Kids: Preparing Your Children to Change Their World,” from 4 to 6 p.m. Sat., May 1 at Calvary Chapel Thousand Oaks, 2697 Lavery Court, Newbury Park.

The program is for parents of children ages 2 to 17 who want more than “nice” kids. The seminar is based on Smith’s best-selling book by the same name.

Presented with humor, media and audience participation, some of the topics will include the decoy of niceness, a parent’s job description, discipline that trains, getting on the same page as parents or co-parents and a 20-year strategy for growing courageous and capable children.

The seminar places a strong emphasis on Judeo-Christian principles and values.

Smith is an author of 18 books, including “Simple Solutions for Families in the Fast Lane,” “The Seven Cries of Today’s Teens” and “52 Family Time Ideas.”

To preregister, call the church at (805) 375-2593. The preregistration cost is $5, and the cost at the door is $10.
