Celebrate Easter at sunrise
The 43rd annual Easter sunrise service at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Memorial Park will take place at 6 a.m. Sun., April 4. The park is at 5600 Lindero Canyon Road in Westlake Village.
The nondenominational service is presented by the Valley Interfaith Council. Nearly 1,000 worshipers and ministers from throughout the Conejo Valley will attend the service.
Luminarias (candles in bags) will guide guests as they join in a candle-lit ceremony at sunrise while a shepherd and her dog tend a small flock of sheep near the lit cross in the garden of Gethsemane.
The Rev. Bruce Kitabjian of Grace Bible Church, Newbury Park, will deliver the Easter message following a reading of the Passion of Christ and prayer.
Other celebrants include the Revs. Gary Alan Dickey and Brian Long, both of United Methodist Church of Westlake Village; the Rev. Craig Beeker, Westlake Village Lutheran Church; Deacon Joe Manion, St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Community; the Rev. Jennifer Witten, Westminster Presbyterian Church of Westlake Village; and the Rev. Mark Robert Waldman, Center for Spirituality and the Mind, University of Pennsylvania.
A collection will be taken during the service to benefit Community Conscience, a nonprofit organization that owns and operates the Under One Roof human services center serving Thousand Oaks and the greater Conejo Valley. The center houses 12 social services agencies operating rent-free.
The service is offered at no charge. Light refreshments will be served after the celebration.
