Reasonable people can agree on climate change
In response to the letter “Climate change is propaganda by left-wing liberals” by Ron Roark, we’ve all heard the expression “ignorance is bliss.” Perhaps a more poignant expression would be “ignorance is dangerous.” Mr. Roark’s comments are clearly a case for the latter.
The vast majority of scientists and lay people know that climate change is a fact and understand that we can still have record low temperatures and rainfall despite the oft used phrase “global warming.”
Perhaps a better phrase might be “global climate change.”
It’s only a very small group of people that will grab on to any sound bite that seems to support their arguments at the expense of good, solid science and investigation.
And what does Mr. Roark have against clean air, controlling pollution, conserving resources and making a cleaner world?
Global warming or not, would it not be a good idea to pursue these things?
Our only hope is that people who believe like Mr. Roark are a quiet minority who don’t have the voice to reach other ignorant and easily swayed minds.
By the way, I’m not old, irresponsible, selfish, lazy or ignorant.
Nor am I a liberal.
And since when is being old ––or liberal––a “loathsome characteristic”?
