Chorale and choir unite for concert
The Los Robles Master Chorale and Los Robles Children’s Choir will present a joint concert, “Reflections,” at 4 p.m. Sun., March 21 at Ascension Lutheran Church, 1600 E. Hillcrest Drive, Thousand Oaks.
Under the direction of the children’s choir artistic director Donna Young, the youths of Bel Canto will sing Handel’s “Art Thou Troubled?” and “If You Sing an Allelu” by Steve Kupferschmid.
Young will lead the Amadeus Choir in “Come Ye Sons of Art” and “Sound the Trumpet” by Henry Purcell, “The Storm is Passing Over” by Charles Albert Tindley and an arrangement of “How Can I Keep From Singing” by Judith Herrington.
Master chorale artistic director Lesley Leighton will conduct the adult chorus in “Salvation is Created” by Russian composer Pavel Chesnekov, the African folk melody “Wana Baraka” arranged by Shawn Kirchner, a setting of “America” and two contrasting settings of “O Magnum Mysterium” by Tomas Luis da Victoria and Morten Lauridsen.
The men of the chorale will also perform Roger Wagner’s arrangement of classic American western songs.
The adult and children’s choruses will join together for David L. Brunner’s “A Simple Boat” and “Benedicite” by Andrew Carter.
Both artistic directors will take part in a free pre-concert conversation at 3 p.m.
