T.O. man may have tried to kidnap his mother

Thousand Oaks resident Juan Mena, also known as Frank Morrison, was arrested in Calabasas on Feb. 27 on allegations that he kidnapped his mother and made criminal threats.

Thousand Oaks police officials allege Mena, 31, blocked his mother inside the bathroom at a home in the 1700 block of Summer Cloud Drive then grabbed her arm and dragged her to the front door, trying to force her to leave with him.

“If you use force to move someone, even a few feet, you’ve kidnapped somebody,” Detective Eric Buschow said.

During the “family dispute” at around 3 p.m. Mena’s mother did not leave with him, Buschow said.

After law enforcement made contact with Mena on his cellphone later that day, the suspect told police he was at the Good Nite Inn at 26557 Agoura Road in Calabasas, where he’d checked in for the night, Buschow said.

Police arrested him at the inn at 10:30 p.m.

Mena pleaded not guilty. He is in custody at the main jail in Ventura with bail set at $20,000. Mena was scheduled to appear in court yesterday, March 10.

According to Ventura County Superior Court documents, Mena was convicted in 2003 of seconddegree commercial burglary. Court records also show he was convicted of speeding and of having no car insurance or proof of vehicle registration in 2001.
