Artist Amanda Shi, 13, of Newbury Park, has qualified for the state PTA Reflections competition. 

Amanda’s artwork qualified for the state contest due to her placing in several local competitions. She won first place at Colina Middle School, the Conejo Valley district and the Ventura County competition.

The winner at the state level will be entered in the national Reflections program. 

Amanda’s entry, a colored pencil painting titled “The Beauty of Music,” depicts a woman’s head with long flowing hair which transitions into piano keys.

Amanda takes classes at the Art Den in Newbury Park.
