Peace activist Cindy Sheehan to speak at Conejo Valley Unitarian fellowship

Peace activist Cindy Sheehan, an opponent of America’s involvement in Iraq whose son was killed in the war in 2004, will speak at the Conejo Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Community Forum at 7:30 p.m. Fri., Feb. 12 in the church sanctuary at 3327 Old Conejo Road, in the Songbird Office Park, Newbury Park.

Sheehan will talk about the peace movement and her latest book, “Myth America: 20 Greatest Myths of the Robber Class and the Case for Revolution.”

Sheehan is best known for camping out near President George W. Bush’s ranch in Crawford, Texas, for four weeks in 2005 in an unsuccessful effort to meet with the president about the war. She went on to make other public appearances calling for an end to America’s troop presence in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Yemen.

Sheehan has won dozens of peace awards and hosts her own Internet radio show, “Cindy Sheehan’s Soapbox.”

Her book discusses many issues beyond war, including the AIG bailout, healthcare, unemployment and wasteful consumption of natural resources.

The forum is free to the public, but donations will be accepted. For more information, call Pamela Lopez at (805) 374-9818 or e-mail pamelajlopez@yahoo.com.
