Other Conejo schools also have people who care

I’m writing in response to “Bridges to offer choice in schools.”

I’m considering Bridges for my fifth-grader next fall. I like the proposed ideas Bridges is offering: small and multiage classes, healthy lunch program and child-directed studies.

But saying that Bridges will be unique in having personable, connected and caring staff and volunteers just isn’t so.

Other schools have incredible staffs, too.

I’d like to compliment the staff at Wildwood Elementary. Principal Hedin knows everyone’s name; he’s always out on campus watching and connecting with the kids in class and on the playground, ensuring a safe and structured learning environment.

Last week I attended the orientation at Colina Middle School, and Principal Frank seems to have the same priorities.

The teachers at Wildwood also all know my kids’ names. And all the teachers that we’ve had contact with over the years at Wildwood have given my kids unlimited individual care and attention. Mrs. Gyure, Mrs. Persico, Mrs. Wilson, Mrs. Buck, Mrs. Talbot, Mrs. Callahan, Mrs. May, Mrs. Morehead and Mrs. Yesionek are great inspirations and motivators for education, kindness and caring.

I’m eternally grateful to every one of them.

Everyone’s on board. The office workers—especially Beate Kunze—also know all the kids and parent volunteers as well, and always have a friendly greeting.

Hopefully this isn’t an anomaly, and other schools in Conejo Valley Unified School District have staffs that enjoy being educators and like and treat kids respectfully.
