Another bank robbed in T.O.
Bank robbery suspect
Does anyone know the name of the man in the plaid fedora?
Police want to know the identity of a man they say robbed a Thousand Oaks branch of Wells Fargo Bank at 2:50 p.m. Thurs., Jan. 21.
The newly built bank is at 1760 E. Avenida de Los Arboles, across the driveway from the California Department of Motor Vehicles near Cisco’s restaurant.
About a dozen employees but no customers were inside the bank, Ventura County Sheriff’s Detective Eric Buschow said.
“The bank has thick, bulletproof glass from the counters to the ceiling. All of the tellers are behind the glass, but there are a few employees not behind the bulletproof glass,” the detective said.
The man approached one of the tellers with a note demanding money and left quietly after the teller handed him cash, Buschow said.
The man didn’t display a weapon or make any threats. He wore a dark-colored suit with a green necktie, a brown plaid fedora, black gloves and dark sunglasses. Witnesses described him as a white male in his 30s, about 6 feet tall, 180 to 190 pounds. He had short brown hair and a goatee and mustache, Buschow said.
“The teller could’ve stood there and said no, but there could have been concern for the people in the bank outside the glass,” he said.
The subject left the area on foot carrying a portfolio and a black umbrella. He exited the bank and walked to the right. So far, no one has reported where he went next.
It would be helpful, Buschow said, if bank customers remove their hats, hoods and sunglasses when entering the bank.
“People who continue wearing their hats and sunglasses inside a bank probably make the employees uneasy,” he said.
Anyone with information about the subject is asked to contact Detective Jon Smith at (805) 494-8216 or the Ventura office of the FBI at (805) 642-3995.
Ventura County Crime Stoppers will pay up to a $1,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and criminal complaint against the person responsible for this crime. The call is not recorded and the caller may remain anonymous. Call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS (8477).
