Drivers must use great caution around pedestrians
I read with interest “Pedestrians at risk in Thousand Oaks” in the Dec. 17 Acorn and the Dec. 31 response, “Students should go where the crossing guards are.” In the former, Lori Walton describes a problem at the intersection of Avenida de Las Flores and Lynn Road. It’s a problem every where . I’ve been in that situation before as a pedestrian, with and without children.
It’s simple. There are impatient drivers on our streets.
The law states that a pedestrian has the right of way in a crosswalk with the signal in their favor. Simple again.
In some areas, there won’t be a light involved.
Simply stated, laws work for everyone.
Ms. Walton acted prudently and responsibly. Her choice of intersections isn’t the issue here.
Regarding the latter letter, it’s the responsibility of Connie Vinson: If you’re in that situation, you must
act prudently.
