Anchors at The Oaks have mixed results in sales

Two anchor stores at The Oaks mall are reporting opposite holiday sales trends this year. The figures are up at Nordstrom but down at Macy’s.

Even though overall sales for the year are down nationwide at both stores, holiday sales thus far at Nordstrom Inc. have increased over last year.

“We have a lot of loyal customers in Thousand Oaks,” said Colin Johnson, a Nordstrom spokesperson.

On Dec. 3, Nordstrom Inc. reported a 2.2 percent increase in same-store sales for the fourweek period ending Nov. 28 compared with the same four-week period last year. Preliminary total retail sales at Nordstrom for November 2009 increased 5.9 percent over the same period in fiscal 2008.“We feel like we had a good start to our holiday season,” Johnson said.

Year-to-date same-store sales at Nordstrom decreased 7.2 percent compared with the same period in fiscal 2008, while preliminary year-to-date total retail sales decreased 3.1 percent.

On Dec. 3, Macy’s Inc. reported a decrease of 6.3 percent in total sales in the four weeks ending Nov. 29, 2009, compared with the same four weeks in 2008.

For the year to date, Macy’s sales were down 7.6 percent from total sales in the first 43 weeks of 2008.
