Master chorale concert to feature film and television actor John De Lancie
Actor John De Lancie will be the special guest in the Los Robles Master Chorale Concert, “Holiday Presence” at 8 p.m. Thurs. and Sat., Dec. 10 and 12 at The Church of the Epiphany, 5450 Churchwood Drive, Oak Park.
De Lancie has appeared on dozens of television shows, including “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” “Breaking Bad,” “The Unit” and “Legend,” as well as such films as “The Hand that Rocks the Cradle” and “The Fisher King.”
At the concert he will narrate John Rutter’s “Brother Heinrich’s Christmas” and Roger Wagner’s “The Christmas Story According to St. Luke.”
The chorale, under the direction of artistic director Lesley Leighton, will perform a diverse selection of seasonal music, including carols by Alfred Burt, “L’dor Vador” by Meir Finkelstein and pieces by Mendelssohn, Victoria, Lauridsen, Chesnokov, Pinkham and Pärt.
The Carillon Handbell Choir of Ascension Lutheran Church of Thousand Oaks will accompany the choir and also perform solo hand bell pieces.
Composer Shawn Kirchner will lead a pre-concert conversation at 7 p.m. each evening.
He will talk about his arrangements of “Wana Baraka,” a Kenyan folk song, and the traditional Appalachian song “Bright Morning Stars,” both of which the chorale will perform. Kirchner’s talk is free, as is a post-concert reception.
Advance tickets are $22 for adults and $20 for seniors and students. Group rates are available.
