Federal study highlights Los Robles

A recently released federal study on nationwide hospital mortality rates has rated Los Robles Hospital and Medical Center among the best in terms of outcomes.
The study, conducted by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, compares the percentage of patients who died within 30 days after first receiving treatment for heart failure, heart attacks or pneumonia.
Tracking mortality rates from 2005 to 2008 in 4,600 hospitals across the country, the study determined that the national 30-day mortality rate for patients originally admitted for heart attack care is 16.6 percent.
Los Robles Hospital came in at 12.7 percent, one of the lowest percentages in the nation. In comparison, Valley Presbyterian Hospital had 19.3 percent, Northridge Hospital had 18.1 percent and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center had 12.8 percent. One other hospital in California had a 30-day mortality rate lower than Los Robles Hospital.
“We’re extremely pleased but not at all surprised by our positive rating,” said Vishva Dev, MD, Los Robles medical director of cardiac services. “It’s been long-known in our community that Los Robles provides outstanding cardiac care, and this study confirms that.”
