Two boys, 16, hurt when car hits tree early Monday in T.O.

Two 16-year-old boys were seriously injured in a single-car collision early Monday morning in Thousand Oaks.

A 15-year-old passenger, a girl, had minor injuries.

All three were taken by ambulance to Los Robles Hospital and Medical Center from the scene at Avenida de Los Arboles, west of Odebolt Drive. The driver remains in the local hospital with broken bones and is in serious condition, said Senior Dep. Shawn Holzberger.

According to a police report, the driver lost control at 1:15 a.m. The silver 2005 Honda SUV hit a tree in the 300 block of Avenida de Los Arboles.

The driver and the male passenger were trapped inside the vehicle until Ventura County Fire Department personnel arrived and freed them.

“It was a pretty horrific scene,” Holzberger said.

Senior Dep. Rick Godfrey said alcohol and drugs weren’t factors in the crash but added, “Speed definitely was an issue.”

The male passenger has a head injury and was transferred to Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, Holzberger said.

He’s in grave condition, Godfrey said.
