Defends the importance of traffic officers

I must respond to Bob Meisterling’s diatribe against local law enforcement activities (Sept. 3 T.O. Acorn , “Cops should have higher priorities than writing tickets”).

So, Bob, you’re not happy with the cop hiding his fat rear end–very offensive remark, Bob–on his motorcycle in various places on Arboles. So, Bob, you think his time could be better spent fighting real crime.

Perhaps you’re unaware of the annual FBI statistical report which perpetually ranks Simi Valley and Thousand Oaks as among the safest cities of their population size in the entire country. You might also want to check out the Sheriff’s Blotter in the Acorn .

So, Bob, you think law enforcement officers “have better things to do than harass some citizen who’s going about his business and not really hurting anyone”? Perhaps you’re ignorant of the fact that people, including children and infants, die in traffic accidents caused by drivers who are going about their business.

This innocuous business would consist of, but by no means be limited to: speeding, using a handheld cellphone, sending and receiving text messages, cutting in front of other drivers with no concern for how close the driver behind them might be–oh, Bob, I could go on and on, but I won’t.

So, Bob, I don’t care if your rear is fat or skinny, as long as you just go away and behave yourself. Oh, and, Bob, let our dedicated law enforcement officers do what they do best–protect we, the people, from all kinds of harm.
Norma E. Uman
