Community invited to ‘Come together’
Newbury Park First Christian Church invites the community to a Come Together Weekend on Sat. and Sun., Sept. 19 and 20 at the church, 801 Knollwood Drive, Newbury Park.
The event will support Manna, the Conejo Valley Food Bank. Nonperishable food donations and checks made out to “Manna” will be accepted both days for the food pantry.
The weekend begins with a concert at 7 p.m. Sat., Sept 19 at the church. An orchestra of 75 musicians and members of the church’s adult and children’s choirs will perform “Come on Children, Let’s Sing!” Complimentary refreshments will be served at intermission.
Admission is free with Manna donation. Seating is first come, first served. ASL interpreting for the deaf will be provided.
The worship celebration will be 9 a.m. Sun., Sept. 20 at the church. ASL interpreting for the deaf will be provided.
A barbecue lunch will be served at 11 a.m. The menu will have tri-tip, chicken, hot dogs, baked beans, salads, bread, desserts and drinks. The cost is $5 per person, with a maximum of $15 per family. Tickets are available at the church on Sunday mornings or by calling (805) 498-2129.
A gathering with food and music will take place at Sycamore Cove Beach at 6 p.m. Sunday.
A group of hikers will leave the church at 2 p.m. to walk through Sycamore Canyon to the beach. Cyclists will leave the church at 3 p.m. to follow the hikers. Transportation back to the church for hikers and cyclists will be provided. For motorists, parking at the beach is available in the parking lot and along Pacific Coast Highway.
