Conejo Players Theatre will present “The Beard of Avon,” based on a novel by Vern Sneider, from Aug. 21 through Sept. 12 at the theater, 351 S. Moorpark Road, Thousand Oaks.

Showtimes are 8 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays.

The comedy is the story of a young Will “Shakespeare” who longs to experience life away from his dismal Stratford Farm and his unhappy marriage to Anne Hathaway. After witnessing a comedy performed by a troupe of London players, Will runs away to London to pursue his theatrical dreams.

Along the way, he’s befriended by a company of players and a darkly mysterious lord. Anne, disguised as a tart, follows him to London to woo him back.

Tickets are $16 Thursdays, $18 Fridays and Sundays, and $20 Saturdays and opening night.
