The state of California robs Peter to pay Paul

Regarding the T.O. Acorn July 30 article (“State budget takes money from T.O.”), how did we get into this situation where people who can’t manage money are empowered to cover up this inadequacy by taking money from those who can?

Our state legislators have consistently relied on the most optimistic revenue estimates and have equally consistently let us down with their budgeting attempts.

Our current budget, which relies heavily on borrowing against a hypothetical rosy tomorrow, is no exception.

Investors, obviously more savvy than our legislators had hoped, have not taken the bait.

Our credit rating will continue to rank last in the nation until we understand that we cannot borrow our way out of this problem.

It’s time that we require each candidate for the state Senate and Assembly to be a CPA. Nick Fotheringham Thousand Oaks
