Marie Castle Robings

Marie (Castle) Robings passed away on Tuesday July 14 at Los Robles Hospital with her family at her side, following a massive brain hemorrhage that occurred on Sunday. While we grieve her loss, we rejoice in her delivery from the grip of Alzheimer's.

Marie was born on September 4, 1922 in Somerville, Massachusetts, one of thirteen children born to Serena and Federico Castellucci.

Marie is survived by her husband of forty-nine years, Jere, and children James (Kathee) and Jacqueline Smith (Jim) and four grandchildren: Charlaine Horning (Douglas) of Gilbert, Arizona; James Jr., Sienna and Chase Robings. Her lone surviving sister, Lorraine Boukas, resides in Laguna Woods.

Marie moved to California in the late 1940's to live with a sister and start a new life. She was employed as a hostess by the Tam O'Shanter restaurant in Glendale, then as a bookkeeper at General Film Laboratory in Hollywood.

She and Jere married in 1960 and two years later moved to Oxnard as a result of his job reassignment. Ten years later the company again reassigned Jere to Thousand Oaks where they have lived ever since. Marie loved her role as mother, housewife and partner with Jere. Together they participated in community organizations; chambers of commerce, American Heart Association, St. Patrick's Episcopal Church, YMCA, political campaigns and, of course, Rotary where they established so many friendships. She thoroughly enjoyed world-wide travel and car trips around the country.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff at Senior Concerns who in recent months looked after Marie at their day-care facility. Also to the wonderful, compassionate staff at Los Robles hospital, from the admitting clerks to the ICU nurses.

Marie frequently spoke of how happy she was with our life, and one can not ask for more than that.

A memorial service will be held for Marie at St. Patrick's Episcopal Church in Thousand Oaks on Saturday, July 25 at 11:00 am with Fr. David Galletly officiating.

Arrangements are being handled by the Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura.
