Lang Ranch Park deserved to go down in flames
My hat's off to the so called NIMBYs (Not In My Back Yard) who banded together to successfully win against the old Lang Ranch Community Park. I was proud to work with them.
My hat's also off to his honor Judge Reiser for siding with the environment and residents. As someone who has grown up in Thousand Oaks, I can assure everyone that if our youth isn't lacking something it's plenty of nearby parks.
The land that was proposed for the park should be a park, but a park for all people. I propose creating a whole access park.
It should have native plantings and trails for disabled residents.
It should have signs for the blind and perhaps a sensory garden.
It should have signage depicting the surrounding environment and Chumash culture. On the subject of native Americans, being of native descent, I am concerned with the possibility of cultural artifacts and or burial grounds in the area.
When the earthen dam was erected upstream, this issue came up many times. The Lang Ranch Park's environmental impact report stated that it was very possible that these sites might be found on the land because of other findings throughout the area.
Let's respect native American culture and disabled residents and create a park for all. Clint Matkovich Thousand Oaks
