A story that never grows old: Caterpillar becomes butterfly

JANN HENDRY/Acorn Newspapers JANN HENDRY/Acorn Newspapers MARVIN GARDENS—In midApril, a caterpillar was found in the Oak Park Community Garden and given a home in Kris Falde's first-grade classroom at Lang Ranch Elementary School. A chrysalis developed, and students watched the metamorphosis of the caterpillar named Marvin as he changed into a butterfly. Marvin was set free last Saturday in a Thousand Oaks flower garden. Marvin, an American painted-lady butterfly, is shown above and at left. Marvin is distinguished by two blue dots divided by two black dots on the hind wing. He's presumably enjoying a joyous spring.
