Arbor/Earth Day festival free in T.O.

The 12th annual Thousand Oaks Arbor/Earth Day festival will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sat., April 25 at Conejo Creek Park North, 1379 E. Janss Road, Thousand Oaks.

The event is presented by the city of Thousand Oaks and Conejo Recreation and Park District.

The festival will feature more than 100 eco-friendly vendors and exhibitors. Activities include tree and plant giveaways, composting workshops, crafts for children using recycled materials, tips on tree and plant care from arborist Dave Mortimer, a wild animal presentation, and fire, police and emergency responders.

Park rangers will have displays of new technology vehicles.

Several Scout groups will plants trees throughout the day.

Friends of the Thousand Oaks Library will sell used books.

The ecofashion show will offer tips on finding stylish outfits from thrift stores.

Local dignitaries, including City Council and Conejo Recreation and Park Board members, will welcome the crowd and participate in a blessing ceremony courtesy of the Chumash Center at 11:30 a.m.

The mayor will also honor this year's Arbor Earth Day poster design winner, Kiah Shapiro, a student at California Lutheran University.

Free entertainment includes the Westlake High School Jazz Band, Earthcapades Environmental vaudeville troupe, Cooper Madison band and the Conejo Drum Circle.

Admission is free, and parking on the south side of Janss Road is also free. Shuttle buses will run every 15 minutes between the parking area and the festival.
