The Livingston Memorial Foundation recently presented grants totaling $414,000 to 30 Ventura County nonprofit organizations for medical and health-related purposes benefiting local residents during its 2011-12 grant year ending April 30.

The Ventura County Fire Department reminds residents that now is the time to prepare for wildfires before the hot, dry, windy weather starts.

Residents who live near natural vegetation are asked to clear brush back 100 feet from structures. That creates defensible space for firefighters and gives them room to operate between a home and an advancing wildfire.

Kenneth S. Kosik, MD; William Vasquez; and Steve Lew have been elected to serve on the board of directors of the Alzheimer’s Association California Central Coast Chapter.

Kosik is a nationally known leader in the field of Alzheimer’s disease. He is the Harriman Professor of neuroscience research and co-director of the Neuroscience Research Institute at UC Santa Barbara.

Los Robles now offering roboticassisted surgery

Los Robles Hospital is one of approximately 20 medical facilities in the country to offer roboticassisted surgeries.

Los Robles’ surgeon Shawn Steen is among the first surgeons in California and the first in Ventura County to perform a roboticassisted gallbladder removal surgery, known as a cholecystectomy, using a single incision through the belly button.
