Last week’s approval of the Shoppes at Westlake Village retail project, including a new Target store that some residents vehemently opposed, is expected to give the local economy a shot in the arm.

In kindergarten, Chris Stack and Kimberli Jezak were friends . . . sort of.

“Kimberli remembers me chasing her around the playground,” Stack said. “I liked to bug her.”

The Village Voices Chorale will present “California Connections” at 8 p.m. Fri. and Sat., June 1 and 2 at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza Scherr Forum Theatre, 2100 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd.

The concert will feature songs about California and music by composers who have lived in the state.

Admission is $20.

Poker players get ‘second chance’ at annual Kiwanis Hold ’em tournament

A “second chance” table will be featured at an upcoming poker tournament.

The fourth annual Texas Hold ’em Poker Tournament and Casino Night will enable the first nine tournament dropouts to reconvene for another chance to win.

Eighteen participants will win prizes, including the top nine in the winners’ bracket.

Library needs used books to sell

The Thousand Oaks Library and the Friends of the Thousand Oaks Library are in need of gently used books to fill the book sale shelves.

The Friends welcome donations of previously owned materials, especially books, for the daily sale at both libraries and the biannual book sales at the Newbury Park Library.

The next sale will take place Sept. 28 and 29.

Disney star to lead free dance class at Boys & Girls Club

Los Cerritos Middle School will host a free dance class for kids ages 7 to 18 at 4 p.m. Wed., May 23 on campus in the John E. Anderson Youth Center, 1930 E. Avenida de Las Flores, Thousand Oaks.

Kelli Berglund, who stars in Disney’s XD’s “Lab Rats,” will teach dance moves.

Erbes Road carnival will raise funds for school

Hillcrest Christian School will present a fundraising carnival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sat., June 2 at 384 Erbes Road, Thousand Oaks.

The event will feature a midway, games, face painting, crafts and a silent auction. A food boutique will sell snow cones, popcorn and other treats.

Proceeds will provide financial aid for the school.
